Mob: +353 87 246 9221 Viatel CEO Colm Piercy explains its offering to large enterprises and public sector organisations via an extensive European data centre and cable network.

Viatel, the Dublin-headquartered pan-European full services telecommunications provider, is part of the Digiweb Group. Viatel is a leading telecommunications company and provides connectivity and ICT solutions tailored specifically for larger enterprise, public sector, wholesale and carrier customers throughout Europe.

With an impressive track record, the company has been serving some of Ireland’s top government and public sector companies and organisations for over 17 years. The company employs 220 people in Ireland, and over the next year, will invest in extending its fibre infrastructure, cloud services and data centres.

Already one of the largest owners of trans-continental duct and fibre across Europe, Viatel also offers voice and managed services, and operates an extensive data centre estate. With metro fibre and data centres in Dublin, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Paris, Rotterdam, Brussels, Zurich, Lyon, Bordeaux and Marseilles, Viatel also owns over 8,500km of duct and fibre optic network infrastructure connecting eight countries, 35 primary cities, 150 data centres and thousands of mid- and large-sized enterprises.

Viatel is continually in the process of improving its network and services. The primary business strategy is to upgrade offerings as and when customer demand dictates. This means installing additional network routes when a customer requires them or developing and/or sourcing new services in order to help customers meet new business demands. We have just recently embarked on a €1.5 million upgrade of the Irish network infrastructure. The network upgrade, which took place in 2014, provides a major enhancement to the Viatel network footprint in Ireland. Some 1,500km of network has been upgraded, covering all major metropolitan areas. This network upgrade quadruples the capacity available from Viatel and is a clear response from us to continue our investment programme across all the markets that we operate in. Major developments from the company over the past year also include the addition of IP transit, dedicated internet access (DIA) and IP VPN capability which enables Viatel to provide a full range of data services to Irish, UK and European customers and locations.

New and existing customers of Viatel can experience significant benefits with a greater choice of routes for IP transit with both full transit and partial transit options.

Viatel is set to invest €125 million in a major expansion. Over the coming year, the firm will invest in extending its fibre infrastructure, cloud services and data centres, and will execute on a stream of acquisitions, supported by newly announced funding partner Proventus Capital Partners.

Viatel has become the first European telecoms operator to win the Deloitte Best Managed Company award. The endorsement from Deloitte and Barclays Bank recognises Viatel as one of the fastest-growing enterprise and wholesale telecoms solution providers, offering cutting-edge, bespoke voice, data connectivity and data hosting solutions to its customers in Ireland and across Europe.
