Fuelling the future

Sir-Gerry-Loughran-David-Cox-and-David-Strahan Around 130 delegates from across the island of Ireland recently attended the all-island Natural Gas Conference hosted by Phoenix Energy Ltd. The Conference examined the key issues facing the natural gas industry in Ireland with a primary focus on examining energy market trends and price forecasts.

The conference showcased a raft of high calibre speakers, which included a presentation from Mark C Lewis who is Managing Director of Deutsche Bank’s global commodities research division. His research on power, gas and emissions markets has been ranked number one by the benchmark Energy Risk survey of global commodities investors in each of the past four years.

Mark provided delegates with an in-depth analysis of global oil markets including the level of national price subsidies for key Middle Eastern economies and the resulting impact on global oil demand. His presentation also focused on price forecasts for European gas markets.

The Head of Total Gas and Power’s European Gas Desk also provided a unique insight into trading in the wholesale gas market and was well received by those attending the conference.

Also speaking at the conference were representatives of Tamboran Resources who as well as having unconventional gas (shale gas) interests in Ireland have global interests including Australia and Africa. The company outlined a potential investment of up to €7 billion supporting around 600 local jobs and delivering potential tax revenues of up to

€4.9 billion. Concerns in respect of shale gas extraction were addressed with detailed explanations of the ‘fracking’ process being provided.

David Strahan, Managing Director of Phoenix Energy Ltd, who hosted the Conference reflected after the event: “The feedback from the Conference has been overwhelming with many delegates commenting that the quality of the expert speaker panel sets the Conference apart from other events.”

Mr Strahan continued: “Phoenix Energy continues to expand across Ireland and it was a privilege to organise and host the Conference which demonstrates our commitment to delivering unrivalled service to our customers.”

Customers continued to switch to Phoenix Energy throughout the year as the company consolidated its position in the gas supply market in Ireland. The company’s customer base now extends across manufacturing, pharmaceutical, agrifood, hospitality and public sectors and includes one of the largest industrial users ever to switch supplier. Phoenix Energy looks forward to further rapid growth with renewed confidence.
